Handel Solo Sonata Intermediate Level Proficiency
Schedule arranged with student(s)
$150 per semester
15 weeks starting week of February 4
Instructor: Joseph DiMarino
Open to students of violin, flute, alto recorder and oboe. Participants will study the Handel sonatas for solo instrument and basso continuo. Students will learn how to interpret and play each sonata movement throughout the term. The group, supported by the instructor, will learn to constructively evaluate ideas, drawing from historical sources (such as Quantz and C.P.E. Bach) in matters of phrasing, articulation, ornamentation, and style. By the end of the course each student should have played at least one complete sonata, and the class members will be encouraged to perform a recital of the sonata studied throughout the course. The instructor will perform the continuo part of the harpsichord at each class session and at any performances.
Required Score: Facsimile of original edition of what is now referred to as Handel's Opus 1. This collection consists of 4 sonatas for recorder, 3 for violin, 3 for flute and 2 for oboe. Recommended edition is Broude Brothers Performers' Facsimile #151 ($20).

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Indian Hill Music School reserves the right at any time to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. We will make every effort to hold all classes offered. In the case of a cancellation, those effected will be notified as soon as possible and a full refund will be issued if another suitable class is not available.
