8 WEEKS: SESSION B - 4/12 to 6/7 Carolyn Cantrell

The Kindermusik Village class provides a delightful environment unlike any other. Through a unique blend of multi-level activities that include creative movement, vocal play, object and instrument exploration, baby’s growth and development are stimulated and all senses engaged. Kindermusik Village is for lap babies, crawlers, and walkers. It incorporates the most current research on early childhood development and provides families a special place for learning and connecting with other parents and babies through music and movement. Home Materials (a $38 per set value included in tuition) for each session allow you to continue the enrichment and bonding with baby at home.

Session A (Cock-A-Doodle-Moo!) -- Hop on the hayride—it’s time to head for the farm! In this class, you will sing songs about the farm, including “Old MacDonald,” “Hayride,” and “Clever Cows.” You’ll engage in rituals and playful activities with your baby, including infant massage, lap bounces, exercise, and quiet time.

Home Materials: A picture board book with charming farm animals and the sounds they make—Cock-a-doodle-Moo, a CD of the songs heard in class, a Sunshine Jingle instrument for music-making at home, and a set of Art Banners for the nursery wall that strengthen vision and promote early literacy.

Session B (Dew Drops) -- Stop and smell the roses—and lily of the valley, tulips, and pansies. In this class, parents and babies will play and move together to songs about flowers, such as “Jasmine Flower,” “How Does Your Garden Grow?” and “White Coral Bells.” You’ll also hear traditional Irish music, dance a jig and move to the “Irish Trot.”

Home Materials: CD of beautifully arranged songs from class, a board book of colorful flowers—DewDrops, a set of Art Banners for the nursery wall that strengthen vision and promote early literacy, and a Flower Bells instrument for music-making at home.

Thursday 10:30-11:15 am 15 WEEKS: Starts 2/9 Carolyn Cantrell
Saturday 10:15-11:00 am 15 WEEKS: Starts 2/11 Carolyn Cantrell

Our Time encourages toddlers to uncover an engaging musical world while building confidence, self-control, and communications skills. Singing, imitating sounds, rhyming, and object identification foster language skills, while creative movement to various musical “moods” develops a sense of balance, timing, and spatial awareness. Our Time is a unique opportunity for parent and child to interact and learn together in an unhurried and joyful manner. Home Materials (a $49 value included in tuition) let you bring music class home!

Away We Go! -- Hop on the train, get in the car, board the plane, and Away We Go! This class focuses on transportation, a favorite topic for toddlers who are on the go, go, go! Sing and play along with favorite songs, such as “I’ve Been Workin’ on the Railroad” and “Wheels on the Bus”. Explore fast and slow, smooth and bumpy, and high and low. Shiny Dinah tells the story of a train, and Giddy-Up! has a horse, speedboat, racecar, and more to help you get where you want to go.

The following classes are for children who attend the class without an adult caregiver. Adults and siblings are invited in at the end of each class for a brief (10-15 minute) sharing time.

Kindermusik® Imagine That (Toys I Make, Trips I Take) Ages 3.5 - 5 years

FEE: $293 for 15 weeks

Thursday 1:30-2:30 pm 15 WEEKS: Starts 2/9 Carolyn Cantrell
Saturday 9:00-10:00 am 15 WEEKS: Starts 2/11 Carolyn Cantrell

Kindermusik Imagine That! takes the preschooler on a musical journey of discovery and exploration, a journey limited only by the power of imagination. Pretend play activities are integrated with music, vocal development, storytelling, movement, and literature to capture the preschooler’s potential to learn and to encourage cognitive and literacy skills, creativity and individuality. Learning continues outside the classroom with Home Materials (a $59 value included in tuition). Preschoolers attend the first 45 minutes of class alone, and then are joined by adult caregivers and siblings for the final 15 minutes of class.

Toys I Make, Trips I Take -- Think of it like taking a course inside a child’s imagination. We’ll use the theme of a toy shop to make our pretend-creations, using rhythm and songs with every imaginary saw, hammer, and nail. The result is building the preschooler’s sense of a sequence of events, which is good for storytelling, as well as making his ideas a reality.

Home Materials: Two books—If I Had a Big Blue Boat and Tippity Tippity Too, Toys I Make, Trips I Take Play Set, Two Home CDs, Family Activity Book, and a drum.

Kindermusik® for the Young Child - Levels 2 & 4 (Ages 5 - 8 years)

PARENTS PLEASE NOTE: For all levels of Kindermusik for the Young Child classes, the FIRST CLASS of the session is an orientation and parents are invited to stay with their child during the entire class. For this initial class, please make other arrangements for siblings so parents can focus completely on the class and enrolled child.

FEE: $282 for 15 weeks

Kindermusik for the Young Child continues the musical journey with a two-year sequential program for kindergarteners and elementary school students. Using a small-group approach to music education, Kindermusik for the Young Child provides a pressure-free class where your child can develop a strong musical foundation by learning the concepts, language, notation, and vocabulary of music and its greatest composers. The program is designed to prepare the young child who is eager for first experiences with musical symbols and instrument discovery but is not yet ready for formal lessons and traditional music reading with an instrument. Play remains the primary way a young child learns, so throughout the curriculum there is a consistent effort to balance active learning with the emotional reasoning aspects of a young child’s development in mind. Home Materials (a $50 value included in tuition) provide a home version of the same playful activities you’ll hear about from class, so your child – and you! – can learn where you’re most comfortable: at home. Some instrument practice is required for successful completion of the class.

LEVEL 2: Ages 5 & 6 (Kindergarten & Grade 1) Completion of Level 1 or permission of instructor is required

Monday 4:00-5:00 pm 15 WEEKS: Starts 2/6 Cyndi Bliss

Playing simple musical patterns and songs on the featured instrument from the first session—the glockenspiel—is a central focus this semester. While learning to sing a melody, and then play the pattern on the glockenspiel, we’ll delve deeper into the understanding of musical concepts such as piano and forte through orchestra-style music such as the William Tell Overture and Peter and the Wolf. Music appreciation and understanding continues with a complete introduction to the instruments of the orchestra—and the families in which they’re grouped.

Home Materials: Children’s Folder with stickers, games bag, and Music At Home Cards, Family Songbook, and Home CD of music from class.

LEVEL 4: Ages 6 to 8 (Grades 1 & 2) Completion of Levels 1, 2 and 3 or permission of instructor is required

Monday 5:00-6:00 pm 15 WEEKS: Starts 2/6 Cyndi Bliss

In this final semester, we’ll introduce the recorder instrument. As your child is introduced to basic methods of playing simple melodic patterns and songs on this wind instrument, we’ll also incorporate the instruments, concepts, and songs from previous semesters. With a special emphasis on multicultural music, your child will learn to improvise and write music, as well as experience the musical styles of the Pacific Islands, Europe, and Africa; plus play special dances and children’s games from around the world, including Alpine dances, Mexico, and Ecuador.

Home Materials: Children’s Folder with stickers, games bag, and Music At Home Cards, Family Songbook, Home CD of music from class, and soprano recorder.
