ABOUT OUR MUSIC THERAPY PROGRAM:
Individual music therapy is now offered at Indian Hill Music on Mondays and Wednesdays. The service is open to anyone, but especially for adults and adolescents with physical, cognitive, and developmental impairments.
A 30-minute initial consultation is conducted with the client and the Music Therapist for a non-refundable fee of $35. Treatment is offered once per week for 30 minutes at $45 per session, and will run in an 8-session cycle, with the option to continue in 8-session cycles. The client must enroll as a student at IHM, but all client information will be kept confidential. Please note that this is a fee-for-service program, and insurance is not accepted at this time.
Group programming is being planned for the Fall. See the class descriptions below. One group will be designed for an elderly population, and one group for adolescents with special needs. 45-minute group classes will meet for 8 weeks at $15 per session. If you have a suggestion about an additional population that could benefit from group music therapy, please let us know!
Music Therapy is only offered on-site at Indian Hill, but in the future may be available as an outreach service to schools, nursing homes, and other agencies. If you are interested in discussing the possibilities of offsite sessions, please contact the program coordinator.

What do music therapists do?
After assessing the strengths and needs of each client, a music therapist develops a treatment plan with measurable goals and objectives and then provides the indicated treatment. A music therapist structures the use of both instrumental and vocal music strategies to improve functioning or facilitates changes that contribute to life quality. These strategies can be used for individual or group treatment, and may include: improvising or composing music with clients, accompanying and conducting group music experiences, directing music and movement activities, or structuring music listening opportunities.

GROUP PROGRAMS:
Schedule: TBA
Tuition: $120 per 8 week session + $15 reg fee ($50 max per family, per year)
RHYTHM & MOVEMENT
Targeted members: Adults, ages 60 and up
The Rhythm & Movement group will tap into our rhythmic impulses and bring out our natural inclination to move to the music! It might start with tapping your finger along to the beat, but it will soon spread to your feet, your legs, your arms, and your whole body! We can see the physical movement in our bodies, but the activity in the brain is the most important stimulation of all. The group format will focus on rhythm activities such as drumming and percussion improvisations, movement based activities with musical accompaniment, or sing-a-long activities to target memory and recall. Engaging in rhythmic activities assists our neurological functions with motor regulation and maintenance, can provide a sense of self control and individualism, and most importantly, is a FUN activity to share with peers! All materials and instruments will be provided by Indian Hill Music. Groups run for 45 minutes, in 8 week cycles.
Schedule: Mondays, 3:30-4:15 pm, starts March 26, 2012
Tuition: $120 per 8 week session + $15 reg fee ($50 max per family, per year)
SENSORY STIMULATION WITH MUSIC
Targeted members: Adolescents with cognitive, developmental, and physical disabilities, ages 9-21
The Sensory Stimulation group is designed for adolescents and young adults who can benefit from a group format to target emotional development with a sensory focus. Activities will focus on increasing socialization, independence, and emotional capacities using sensory based musical interventions. These activities might include drum circle and percussion improvisations, call and response activities, interventions using sensory objects like Boomwhackers or balloons, or songwriting about feelings and emotions. Instrument modifications can be implemented for clients with ambulatory special needs. All materials and instruments will be provided by Indian Hill Music. Groups run for 45 minutes, in 8 week cycles. Depending on client abilities and functioning levels, this group may be split into various groups to better serve each client’s ability and goals.
