STRINGS DEPARTMENT

Beginning String Ensemble - NEW!

Saturday, 2:30-3:30 pm
$182 per semester
14 weeks: start date TBA; call to learn more

Instructor: Caroline Reiner-Williams

This ensemble will offer young string players the new experience of playing in a small string ensemble. Students will learn a variety of pieces by different composers and begin to develop their ensemble skills, including intonation, stylistic interpretation, listening skills, and how to balance and blend with other string players. Requirements: students on violin, viola and cello should have completed Suzuki book 1 or its equivalent, and be able to demonstrate basic sight-reading skills in first position. G and C major scales of 1 to 2 octaves are also recommended as they will be practiced as warm-ups in class. String ensemble aims to provide students with a foundation for advanced orchestral playing in larger groups.




MacHarp'N - Harp Ensemble Adults

Wednesday, 9:30-10:30 am
$385 per semester
15 weeks starting February 6

Instructor: Nancy Peters

Relaxed sessions designed to promote the learning and enjoyment of ensemble playing. Repertory will include fun suites and single pieces in multiple parts. Open to students of the pedal or lever harp with good basic playing and reading skills.




WINDS and BRASS DEPARTMENT

Clarinet Choir Adults

Thursday, 7:30-8:45 pm
$345 per semester
20 weeks starting November 29 (continues into Spring semester)

Intermediate and advanced clarinetists are invited to audition for the Clarinet Choir. Members will build their ensemble and personal performance skills through works for B-flat clarinet ensemble as well as the other members of the clarinet family, which students will be encouraged to learn about and play. The ensemble will perform in a variety of venues. First session open for new interested clarinetists to audition. Bring current repertoire and scales.




VOICE DEPARTMENT

Threshold Singers Adults

First and Third Wednesday, 7:00-9:00 pm

Meets year-round

Director: Charlotte Russell

An ensemble that honors the ancient tradition of singing at the bedsides of people who are struggling, some with living, some with dying. Indian Hill's Threshold Singers is open to both men and women. The main criteria for membership are feeling a shiver down your back at hearing about the group, and, along with a 6-month commitment, one should be able to carry a tune. A "fancy" voice is not necessary. In addition to singing, members enjoy socializing, networking and an occasional mini-workshop with a local musician or spiritual leader. GUITAR DEPARTMENT

Acoustic Guitar and Bass Ensemble Ages 8 and up

Wednesday, 7:30-9:00 pm
$400 per semester
15 weeks starting February 6

Instructor: Eric Baldwin

This ensemble is for advanced level players who already read music. Class will explore three- and four-part harmonized guitar music from the pop and jazz repertory. Students will also learn to improvise and play in a group setting.




Electric Guitar Ensemble Ages 12 and up

Thursday, 4:00-5:00 pm
15 weeks starting February 7
$315 per semester
Instructor: Jamie Dunphy

Explore a wide range of classical, jazz and popular music arranged for 4 and 5 guitars. This ensemble is a unique opportunity for guitarists to play in a group, and a great chance to sharpen your listening, reading and interpretive skills. Students should be familiar with all of the natural notes in first position, and own an electric or acoustic/electric guitar.




JAZZ DEPARTMENT

Beginning Jazz Ensemble Ages 10 and up

Wednesday, 3:00-4:00 pm
15 weeks starting February 6
$315 per semester

Instructor: Jamie Dunphy

A great introduction to jazz, funk and other improvised music. Students will learn the essential elements of the jazz language, and will develop listening, accompaniment and improvisational skills. Each semester, the group will create original arrangements of several jazz standards and a rock song of their choosing. Open to all instruments; one year of private lessons required.




Jazz Lab 

Thursday, 7:00-8:30 pm
15 weeks starting February 7
$300 per semester

Instructor: Bill Jones

Ideal for beginning jazz players or classical musicians looking to try something new. Learn the essentials of group improvisation in a small combo. Each semester this class will focus on a small number of jazz standards, exploring various improvisational ideas for each. The group will perform several times during the year at Indian Hill and other venues.




Jazz Standards Band Ages 18+

Monday, 7:30-9:00 pm
$300 per semester
15 weeks starting February 4
Instructor: Eric Baldwin


Permission of instructor required. For advanced players. Explore the rich heritage of America’s great art form. Each year this ensemble will focus on a small number of jazz standards, creating original arrangements from simple lead sheets. Depending on the interest of the students, the group may spend one semester focusing on the work of a single composer. This ensemble will perform several times during the year at Indian Hill and other local venues.




MIXED INSTRUMENTS

Monday Night Music Ensemble

Monday, 8:15-9:15 pm
$265 per semester

Permission of instructor required. This chamber ensemble for adult musicians explores major works of the classical chamber repertory. Open to all standard orchestral instruments. Audition may be required for placement in the group.




School of Rock Ensemble

Tuesday, 7:15-8:15 pm
$250 per semester
15 weeks starting February 5

Instructor: Patrick Mottaz

Ever wanted to play in a band and learn songs by Hendrix, Deep Purple, the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Green Day, Joe Satriani and more? Want to know how to make up your own song? Discover professional rehearsal techniques to quickly learn a song. Plus get hints on writing a solo part, harmonizing guitar/keyboard lines, improvising, connecting with bass and drums, and locking into the groove. Audition or teacher recommendation required.
