IN THE COMMUNITY
Indian Hill Recognized For Its Community Engagement Programs
“Indian Hill is committed to bringing the experience of music to underserved people in all corners of our community, and at all stages of their lives.
Susan Randazzo, IHM Executive Director
Indian Hill Music was recognized for its strong community service efforts by two prominent organizations this fall. First, we earned
a nomination for Nonprofit of the Year by Enterprise Bank’s Celebration of Excellence. Enterprise Bank CEO Jack Clancy stated that the annual program honors organizations and leaders “that support and foster the development of vibrant and prosperous communities.”
Indian Hill also received the 2011 Roy L. Jeannotte Service
& Leadership Award from the Nashoba Valley Chamber of
Commerce. At the 14th Annual Awards Ceremony held on
November 2, Warren Chase of North Middlesex Savings Bank
and Dick Conway of Conway Chevrolet Buick presented the award
to IH Executive Director Susan Randazzo and IH Board Chair Ralph
Brown in recognition of outstanding community contributions to
the Nashoba Valley Region.
“Indian Hill Music’s outreach programs are outstanding. I can
honestly say that Indian Hill’s presence and involvement in our
community has been essential to keeping arts alive in a working
class town.” --Member of the Ayer Cultural Council

Musical Philanthropy
“Musical philanthropy has become a driving force in our mission and the lens through which we examine all of our work. It is our heart.”
Susan Randazzo, IHM Executive Director
Giving the gift of music is the heart and soul of Indian Hill Music. With a mission of “benefitting individuals, families and communities through music,” we are committed to deepening our musical presence in the 60-town region we serve through a variety of philanthropic and community engagement initiatives designed to make music accessible to everyone especially the underserved populations who need it the most.
Each year, the musicians of Indian Hill, from the Music School and Orchestra of Indian Hill, both professional and student, offer music in a wide variety of settings. Visits to schools, senior centers, assisted living facilities, community gatherings and other events bring music to those who otherwise would not have access, and help IHM meet its mission of giving back.

• We hold free “Bach’s Lunch” faculty concerts for some 2,000 seniors, home-schooled families and local professionals annually.
• Nearly 90 students from preschool to grade 5 in Ayer took music classes and/or learned to play an instrument through our After School Music Collaborative. More than 400 Ayer students also attended musical performances this spring as part of the program.
• We are the first community music school in the nation to offer a Threshold Choir, which provides healing and comfort at the bedsides of the sick and dying.
• The Indian Hill Big Band and Justin Meyer Swing Trio regularly perform at senior centers and functions in our local communities. Our student groups and faculty have also performed dozens of outreach concerts in a variety of locations and area towns.
• We awarded $41,000 in scholarships to our Music School this year. We encourage our students to share their gift of music with others. Our annual Performathon, where students and faculty perform for an entire weekend, raises funds that allow us to give scholarships to students in need so that they can attend IHMS. Many of these scholarship students have won awards for their talent that has flourished at Indian Hill.
• We offer free master classes, workshops and concert tickets to each of our 1,500 music students.
• We provide free concert tickets to approximately 40 area nonprofits to use in fundraising activities for their organizations each season.

Helping Out at the Holidays: IH staff members Addy Buffum (School & Outreach Manager) and Suzanne Cabot (Marketing Asst.) deliver a stash of personal care items donated by student families and staff to Loaves & Fishes Food Pantry in Devens.
Past activities include our participation in a national food drive in which our student families and concert attendees donated more than 525 pounds of food for the local Pantry. We also conduct regular food, toy, and product drives for Loaves & Fishes during the holidays.
