AN EVENING OF GRATITUDE & MUSIC

On Saturday, November 5, Indian Hill Music honored 100 of its major supporters at a gala dinner that included performances by youth and adult students of the Music School as well as professional players from the Orchestra
of Indian Hill. The evening's guest speaker was prominent arts advocate Dr. Karl Paulnack.

Dr. Paulnack inspired the audience with his passionate assertion that music is a “lifesaving practice [for] people
who need it in order to survive and thrive.” As Director of the Music Division at the Boston Conservatory and a
fierce promoter of music as a lifeline in difficult times, he compared music to a “firefighter that comes into
our lives [as if] into a burning building; it comes in through a window, finds us in a place in our lives
that we don’t think we could get through on our own, and it somehow carries us to a place where we’re clearer and we can breathe again.”

He paid tribute to donors to music organizations like Indian Hill by proclaiming, “You’re the people who allow us to
train for what we do … for the moment when we need to make music for someone so that they can carry their life,
so that they can carry their experience. If you help to support music and musicians, you are carrying
people in your arms, because the music carries us and you help to carry the music.
When musicians go
in through a window of someone’s burning building to bring them a Brahms symphony and get them out alive, you
are the people holding the ladders. You are the people who allow us to reach the windows we otherwise couldn’t
reach.”

CELEBRATING 25 YEARS OF MAKING LIVE MUSIC MATTER IN OUR COMMUNITIES!

The year 2010 marked Indian Hill Music’s 25th anniversary of excellence as a non-profit community music school and performance center in Littleton, Massachusetts. Our mission “to benefit individuals, families and communities through music,” is driven by our deep belief in the transformational power of music and its ability to strengthen, heal and inspire. Through our educational programs, professional concert series, and community engagement initiative, we strive to make “live” music matter to our 1,500 students, 6,000 concertgoers, 700 contributors, and the 6,600 people served by our outreach activities.

Since 1985 IHM has grown from an organization with the sole asset of one piano in need of repair and a budget of $300,000 to a $2.4M nationally-recognized center of excellence in music education, performance and community engagement.

Over the past 25 years, thousands of people like you from our local communities have studies at Indian Hill Music School, attended Orchestra of Indian Hill concerts, and participated in our Outreach programs.

Your contribution will enable IHM to continue to make live music matter to people of
all ages in the community. Our music school offers you the chance to learn and perform. Our professional performance series, anchored by the Orchestra of Indian Hill, provides you with the highest quality concert experiences in all genres. Our outreach activities bring music to your neighbors who may not have access to it.

Your generous contribution today will enable us to continue to make music matter in the community by:

• Providing and maintaining a unique, comfortable space for all ages to learn, explore and enjoy all types of music.
• Attracting and retaining top music educators and professional musicians in our school faculty and orchestra.
• Presenting creative programs that take you on musical journeys and provides a sanctuary to refresh your spirit.
• Bringing music instruction to elementary school children in Ayer.
• Giving 2000+ seniors, home-schooled families, and community members free "Bach's Lunch" faculty concerts each month, and free concerts in your community.
• Offering the services of our new healing chorus, The Threshold Choir, who sings at the bedsides of those facing life's transitions.
