Congratulations to the following students on their recent achievements!

Indian Hill Music Sally Chapin Piano Competition

Sally Chapin Competition Division III Selected Winners and Honorable Mentions with Judges Sonya Ovrutsky Fensome and Victor Cayres

Indian Hill Music School announces the winners of the second annual Sally Chapin Piano Competition — a competition exclusively for Indian Hill Music School students — on April 30. Sixteen student winners from Acton, Andover, Boxborough, Chelmsford, Devens, Groton, Holden, Stow, Wayland, and Westford performed in a concert at the music school on Saturday, May 5. In addition, these students were invited to perform a special concert at M. Steinert & Sons at the Natick Mall on Sunday, May 20.

The winners are:

Division I
First Place: Eric Feng, 8, of Boxborough, a student of Niva Fried.
Second Place: Alex Hernandez-Williams, 7, of Holden, a student of Christina Dietrich.
Third Place: Sophie Luong, 8, of Groton, a student of Tatiana Kolossova Bercu.
Runner Up: Myko Roberts, 6, of Chelmsford, a student of Christina Dietrich.

Division II
First Place: Torsten Ullrich, 14, of Westford, a student of Niva Fried.
Second Place: Olivia Liang, 13 of Stow, a student of Marianna Rashkovetsky.
Third Place: William Hua, 10, of Acton, a student of Niva Fried.
Runners Up: Aurora Wu, 12, of Acton; Henry Clayton, 14, of Acton; and Hannah Chiou, 15, of Devens.

Division III
First place: Kyle Chen, 16, of Wayland, a student of Niva Fried.
Second place: Carina Hou, 16, of Westford, a student of Niva Fried.
Third place: Annabella Chen, 15, of Acton, a student of Niva Fried.
Runners up: Justin Gu, 16, of Andover; Andrew Shen, 17, of Acton; and Kate Selig, 16, of Harvard.

In 2016, longtime piano teacher Sally Chapin of Concord presented her family’s cherished 1889 Steinway grand piano to Indian Hill Music School. In 2017, after receiving a generous donation from the Chapin family to fund its annual piano competition, the music school named it in her honor. The competition is open only to students of Indian Hill Music School.

More Student Accomplishments

Indian Hill Music School alumna Theodora Nestorova, a senior at Oberlin College, has received a Fulbright Scholarship to study vocal performance and pedagogy in Vienna in the fall. Theodora was a student at our school from 2008 to 2014. She studied piano with Christina Dietrich, voice with Sue Bonito, and music theory with Jenny Tang.

Kyle Kashiwabara, a voice student of Rob Woodin, was selected as one of 20 finalists for the Boston Symphony Orchestra Young Artist Competition. Kyle is a senior at North Middlesex Regional High School in Townsend, and will attend Berklee College of Music in the fall to study Music Composition.
