Personal Guided Tour by Paul Matisse of "Matisse in the Studio" at the MFA

The Boston Museum of Fine Arts is currently presenting a marvelous new show of some 86 paintings, drawings, and sculptures by one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, Henri Matisse. The exhibit also includes a large number of the painter’s personal household objects, many of which he used as important visual elements in the paintings. In this inspired setting many of these objects are shown paired with the images that they ultimately became a part of. Seeing the show in this fashion is very much like visiting with the artist surrounded by some of his favorite artifacts, and thus becoming even closer to the day to day reality of the artist and his vision.

Paul Matisse, grandson to Henri, and an artist and inventor in his own right, knew his grandfather through pre- and post-war summer family visits that gave him vivid memories of the painter at work. He has offered to accompany a small group of art lovers for a tour of the show while commenting on the works viewed. He will also be accompanied by Helen Burnham, the MFA’s Lead Curator of the show.

The winning bidder may invite 3 guests for a one-hour tour, or as much time as the group desires. We will be starting at 6PM on a Wednesday, Thursday or Friday evening during the last three weeks of June, on a date that is agreeable to all.

Board and Council Wine and Games Collection

The Indian Hill Board and Council have curated a collection of favorite wines and paired with a favorite game. Their personal stories reveal the inspiration behind their selections.  Game night has never been so fun!

This sample pairing is a gift from Carole and Art Prest, Honig 2015 Savuignon Blanc and Taboo:

In our household, 2010 was a special year. It was our 30th wedding anniversary and we decided to take a cruise through the British Virgin Islands on the Cuan Law, a 100 ft. trimaran. Joining us were our 2 best friends, our adult children and their spouses. The sailboat has just 10 cabins and so we made up almost half of the guests on board. On the first night, we took out our game of Taboo and, as usual, laughed heartily while playing. Another couple asked to play which we, of course, encouraged. The next night, we had 14 participants and 2 crew members.  Each night, the group expanded and by the end of our week on the boat, the entire crew and 18 guests were all playing Taboo.  We hope you have as much fun as we have with this silly game!

While you are playing Taboo, enjoy this Honig 2015 Sauvignon Blanc from Napa, CA. This family-owned and managed vineyard consistently produces wines that receive 90+ ratings from Wine Spectator. This bottle is signed by Michael Honig. Here is their story.

Basket of Exceptional and Unusual Spirits

This eclectic assortment of outstanding spirits, curated by Tim Bush of Colonial Spirits, demonstrates the discerning taste of a gracious host.  Read on for Tim’s descriptions . . .

The spirits that I selected are particularly intriguing because, individually, they all represent a choice that is somewhat off the beaten path yet are able to deliver great satisfaction.  Collectively, this selection is worth lining up on your bar.  To display this kind of diversity and quality is certain to intrigue and inspire any guest who has an interest in spirits.
Karlsson's Vodka - You likely have heard of potato vodka, but none quite deliver what this spirit does.  The flavor is rich and and viscous.  Unlike many vodkas, this one is distilled only once in order to preserve the character of the spirit and the quality coming from Swedish baby potatoes.

Gin Mare - A Mediterranean Gin for sure.  Distilled from olives, thyme, rosemary and basil it's savory, herbaceous and even citrusy.  There's nothing quite like it and the careful process that brings it to life is no small feat.

Glenmorangie Milsean - Well known for a pleasant, delicate style, Glenmorangie releases a special expression each year.  Milsean is extra matured in a charred wine barrel for a sweeter finish that makes this a remarkable after dinner whisky.

Cleveland Underground Black Cherry - Through a unique, proprietary, method Cleveland Underground 'ages' Bourbon a little differently.  Their process allow for the inclusion of wood that would be unsuitable for barrels because of leaking.  There are several to chose from but the black cherry offers a subtle, underlying flavor that is like freshly split firewood.  It's not sweet, nor is it flavored artificially but it is delicious.

High West Campfire- A masterpiece in whiskey... the secret to this blend is some peated Islay malt (smoky scotch) but the bourbon and rye fortify a flavorful sipper that makes you wish you were at a campfire.

Art in the Age Root - One of the most well made liqueurs you can find.  The ingredients are organic and artfully crafted into a throwback to a historical recipe.  The aroma is incredible, leading to all of the great things that you remember from root beer, without the sugar.
